Have you ever had the experience of taking an exam and twenty minutes into it, people start turning theirs in and you’re like…
Because you aren’t even close to thinking about being done?
I wasn’t even a third of the way done with the first of our three essay questions when people started handing in their exam booklets and leaving the room. I guess I’m still getting used to not having self-scheduled, un-protoctored exams like I did when I was an undergraduate. (My college had a very strict honor code that students actually adhered to).
However, last week takes the cake for the most stressful week in recent memory. To sum it up, this is how I felt every day at work:
But last night, at approximately 6:15 mountain time, I finished my last final exam and felt like this on the inside…
Actually, I was too exhausted and utterly drained to be happy. I ordered vegan BBQ burger with some awesome crunchy fried onions on top and picked it up on my way home. Once I got home, I promptly collapsed on my couch with an ice cold root beer and some salty french fries as an end-of-the-semester treat. Once I was in a food coma (which happened quickly), I almost fell asleep watching reruns of the Office on Netflix but got it together enough to take a shower and sleep in my actual bed.
I actually think I’m more relieved that this year is over than I was to be done with my undergraduate degree. Maybe I just don’t remember how relieved I was then I can’t imagine what it will be like to go through a doctorate and actually (hopefully) finish it. Corinne, if you’re reading this, you’re such a rockstar for finishing yours! ;)
Even though I’m glad to be done with this semester, my miniature celebration (if you can even call it that–it was more like dinner) didn’t last for long. I still had to wake up at 6 am to go to work this morning, and let me tell you, that alarm came way too early (even though I usually get up before 7 every day anyway).
However, this is going to be a great summer. I’ve always wanted to spend a summer in Boulder, hiking, laying in the grass next to small mountain streams, visiting farmer’s markets, and enjoying pleasant evenings sipping wine on my balcony. It doesn’t hurt that I live in the middle of nowhere with minimal light pollution and a great view of the stars.
Even though I’ll be working full-time and have to study for the GRE, I’ve got a lot of fun things planned and I can’t wait to get it all started.
Thank you for being patient as I finished up finals and was absent around here and other blogs.
Hope you all had a wonderful week!
